Terry will release his new book, Running with Asthma: An Asthmatic Runner’s Memoir, 2nd Edition. This book was originally published in 2015. In the past 10 years, Terry has learned so much more about how manage asthma and other ailments, making this new edition important.
Terry is an author, a song writer, a guitar player, a singer, and a teller of humorous stories. Terry will talk about his books, sing the songs he has written, mostly about his books, and tell some humorous stories as well. Terry’s good friend, Lee Evers, has taught Terry many jokes which Terry loves to share at every opportunity. Lee, at age 101, will be in attendance for this show.
Terry’s new music CD will be released this September. The CD, Rite of Passage, demonstrates Terry’s development as a song writer, singer, and guitar player. Terry started playing guitar seven years ago. Under the coaching of local guitar teacher Michael Nix, his proficiency in guitar has steadily improved. Most of Terry’s songs are related to the books Terry has written. Rite of Passage was produced locally by Tommy Byrnes at Southpaw Recording Studios in Bernardston.
Terry will also talk about his two other books, Breaking Through the Line: Bobby Marshall, the NFL’s First African American Player, and Route 1 Rendezvous, a young adult novel about teen bullying. All three of Terry’s books are available at the Greenfield Public Library and amazon.com. These books will also be for sale at the show. Running with Asthma…2nd Edition and Breaking Through the Line: Bobby Marshall… were published by Norton Stillman of Nodin Press.
Terry, a graduate student in exercise physiology at Springfield College, has found his breathing techniques, featured in Running with Asthma… 2nd Edition, have helped people manage asthma and many other ailments such as high blood pressure, Parkinson’s, arthritis, and anxiety. Terry and his wife Carol help clients in their breath practice. This practice features Coherent Breathing, a method developed by Richard Brown MD and Patricia Gerbarg MD. Carol and Terry were trained in Coherent Breathing by these doctors.
Terry’s show was first performed at the Sunderland MA Public Library in February 2024. Aaron Falbel, Head of Adult Services at Sunderland Library said, “Terry McConnell puts the folk back in folk music. His stage presence and his music are down to earth and accessible. He is no glitzy, remote performer: rather, his demeanor is personable and authentic. His songs have depth and will make you think. He is a genuine troubadour and an astute observer of the American scene.”
